Run an aerial takeoff

Capture the roof from aerial imagery on a roofing job, or import a measured report, then review the quantities before anyone prices work off them.

Before you start

  • A saved roofing job with a site address

    The takeoff lives on a job. Open the exact job and confirm its address before starting imagery work.

  • The correct building

    You confirm the roof on the imagery yourself, by dragging the map until the crosshair sits on it.

  • A field-verification plan

    Aerial quantities remain estimates and must be verified before material is ordered.

    Open the job's Roof takeoff section

    Open the roofing job and select Measurements in the job's left rail. Roof takeoff is the section it reveals.

    You know it worked when The Roof takeoff card appears, showing area, squares and how many reports are attached.

    Capture the roof from imagery

    Aerial takeoff opens the capture dialog. Drag the map until the crosshair sits on the roof, set the number of stories, then confirm with This is the roof. Capture.

    You know it worked when FL Permit Pay saves the capture against this job and the takeoff card leaves the No takeoff state.

    Or bring a measured report in

    Add or import opens the roof-quantity source panel: Upload / paste report for an EagleView, GAF QuickMeasure, Vexcel or Nearmap report, Trace image to mark up a roof image yourself, Order a report, or Enter manually.

    You know it worked when The parsed or entered quantities appear on the takeoff card for review.

    Read the numbers before pricing anything

    Once a takeoff is received, Review takeoff report opens the full record and Preview takeoff PDF opens the export. Read what the record says about how the numbers were obtained.

    You know it worked when The record states its analysis mode. A footprint fallback is labeled as plan area only and does not measure eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys, facets or pitch.

You are finished when

The job's Roof takeoff section shows quantities with their source

Area and squares appear on the takeoff card, labeled with how they were obtained, and Review takeoff report opens the full record.

What still needs your review

  • You confirm the building, not the softwareThe capture dialog asks you to drag the map until the crosshair sits on the intended roof, and to say how many stories it is, before it captures anything.
  • Footprint fallback is not a measured roofWhen measured analysis is unavailable, FL Permit Pay can fall back to a public building footprint. That is plan area only: it does not classify or measure eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys, facets or pitch, and it is labeled as such on the record.
  • Solar Design is separateSolar Design is a preliminary surface and does not change FL Permit Pay roof measurements.
  • Verify in the field before orderingEvery aerial quantity is an estimate until someone has been on the roof. Do not order material from it unverified.

Troubleshooting

The job has no Measurements tab or Roof takeoff section.

Roof takeoff is shown for roofing work. Open Edit job and confirm the trade; for a non-roofing trade the equivalent is the scope sheet.

Aerial takeoff is disabled.

Hover the control: it says whether the feature is temporarily unavailable or the plan does not include it. Plan access is compared in Billing.

The takeoff says the proposal is blocked or the scope is not verified.

That is the review holding a generated proposal back. Correct the roof outline, set a verified pitch, or import a measured report, then re-open the record.
