Create a job

Start a job record, connect the basic work details, and place it in the right stage.

One record that the permit, the proposal, the crew schedule, the field photos and the money all hang off, so nobody has to ask which spreadsheet the job lives in.

Before you start

  • A job name

Use the name your crew will recognize in the pipeline.

  • The trade

Choose the trade that matches the work being organized.

  • Customer or site details

Have the customer or job-site information ready if it is already known.

Follow the task on screen.

The FL Permit Pay Jobs workspace, showing sample jobs grouped by stage with the New job, Import jobs and Board controls in the header.
  1. Step 1. New jobOpens the new-job form. This is the only control that creates a job from scratch.
  2. Step 2. Import jobsBulk intake for work that already exists somewhere else.
  3. Step 3. BoardThe same jobs as stage columns. Portfolio, Review and Completed sit beside it.

  1. 1Marker 1 on the screenshot

    Open the new-job form

In the Jobs workspace, select New job at the top right of the header.

You know it worked when FL Permit Pay opens the new-job form at /dashboard/jobs/new.

  2. 2Not on this screen

Fill in the job and save it

Choose how the job starts, give it a name your crew will recognize, set the trade, and attach the customer and site address if you have them. Then select Create job at the bottom of the form.

You know it worked when FL Permit Pay opens the saved job record. This step happens on the form, which is a different screen from the one pictured above.

  3. 3Marker 3 on the screenshot

Move the job as the work advances

Switch to Board to see the same jobs as stage columns, and move a job when its work advances. The job record carries the same stage control.

You know it worked when The job appears under the stage you selected, in Board and in Portfolio.

  4. 4Marker 2 on the screenshot

Bring existing work in instead of typing it

If the jobs already exist in a spreadsheet or another system, use Import jobs rather than re-keying them.

You know it worked when The import screen opens and reports what it matched before anything is saved.

You are finished when

The job appears in the Jobs workspace

You can open the new job from the pipeline and see its saved trade and current stage.

What still needs your review

The workspace can be in any of these states when you arrive. Find the one in front of you.

Wait for the workspace to finish loading before selecting a record or action.

Create or complete the customer record, then return to the new-job form.

The job shows a roof takeoff you did not expect, or is missing one.

The job's trade decides that. Open Edit job and set the trade, then reload the record.
